Pennsylvania Educators of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a non-profit organization committed to educational improvements which will directly benefit the students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Pennsylvania schools. In an effort to promote harmony and professional growth among its members, PESDHH hosts an annual convocation to provide educational programs for individuals preparing for or working in educational fields relating to hearing loss. Additionally, a membership newsletter and web page provide additional means for the organization to share information throughout the year.
On August 9, 2011 PESDHH hosted a wine and cheese party after the Low Incidence Conference sessions at the Penn Stater Hotel in State College, PA from 4:30-6:00 PM. There were 31 guests. It was an opportunity for deaf and hard of hearing educators to collaborate with colleagues; as well as visit with old friends and establish new friendships.
Mary Ann Stefko, President of PESDHH spoke briefly about PESDHH and the efforts to continue collaborating with educators. Mary Ann explained that there will be a Flat Stanley project ongoing this school year as an attempt to link students together to communicate with other deaf/hard of hearing students. There was a survey available for attendees to fill out with contact information. Attendees will receive emails about future PESDHH meetings and events.
Mary Ann thanked Pattan consultants and Janet Sloan for allowing us to use the offices for our video web cam meetings. She also thanked Nan Rodgers for organizing the wine and cheese gathering.
