Pennsylvania Educators of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a non-profit organization committed to educational improvements which will directly benefit the students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Pennsylvania schools. In an effort to promote harmony and professional growth among its members, PESDHH hosts an annual convocation to provide educational programs for individuals preparing for or working in educational fields relating to hearing loss. Additionally, a membership newsletter and web page provide additional means for the organization to share information throughout the year.
PESDHH West Did a great job hosting the convocation this year. The speakers were interesting and informative. The food was wonderful including the night out on the town at an Italian restaurant.
One of the highlights of the weekend was a tour of WPSD. They have a beautiful campus with a lot of innovative ideas. One of their most unique ideas is the Children's Village. It is a collection of child size buildings representing different businesses. The accompanying hands on curriculum they have developed allows the young children to see how the bank works, what happens to the mail at the post office etc.
A big thank you to both the planning committee for all their hard work and especially to WPSD for hosting the convocation.
At our business meeting we had to say good bye to Bill Hudson, our out going president. Bill has served two-two year terms and as outlined in the bylaws is no longer allowed to serve.
We also have to say good bye to Nan Rodgers. Nan is in the middle of her term as vice president but has joined the state licensure board as the representative for teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing. With this commitment she is not able to give the time to PESDHH that is necessary. She has promised to stay involved and help the new officers.
